The following are some of the conditions that would fall into the candidacy for surgery of a patient:
- profound hearing impairment in both ears.
- willing to work on rehabilitation and therapy
- not obtaining enough hearing from all other devices
- having an auditory nerve in working condition
- being in good conditions for surgery
- understanding the real possibilities of recovery and obtaining hearing within normal expectations
- having lived without hearing
